5 Basic Tips you need to know before visiting South Korea

3:47 AM

what's up y'all !

I'm finally back from my short holiday

as you guys may know from my INSTAGRAM
I went to Korea for about 10 days and just got back last week

it was my second time going there and it was such an awesome trip
it didn't feel like a trip at all coz it was the first time I planned a trip by myself

it was a 10 days trip, should be 14 days but I got a problem with my VISA so unfortunately I need to buy a new flight ticket for me and my family. sucks... i know...

anyways, I went there with my mom, dad and my sis
my mom and dad went back first on May 8th meanwhile me and my sis extended our stay until May 14th

fyi, the following tips are going to be the one that I think works for me!

now, let's jump in to the tip number 1! ^_^

first thing first, you need to plan your stay while in Korea
for me, I'd rather stay at apartment, guesthouse or a hostel
why ? coz it's cheaper of course ! haha
you don't want to spend money only for a small room for you to rest at night right ?

for my last visit, I used AIRBNB and it was the right decision I've ever made
you can simply sign up for free and you'll get to choose your stay!
I stayed at 2 places last time, one in Jongno gu area and one in Gangnam area (near sinnonhyeon station)

you can choose wherever you want ! for me, it's best to stay near the subway station, coz it's easier to reach everywhere with subway, and it'll save your time A LOTTT

for you guys who haven't sign up on Airbnb, you can use my coupon http://abnb.me/e/z6EssB9rnD to get a $26 dollars off, or IDR350,000 on your first trip ! XD~

you need to know what will you do there, in order to know the best area for you to stay

I suggest HONGDAE/HONGIK Univ, GANGNAM, and MYEONGDONG

tip number 2

know the weather in order for you to know what you'll wear
you don't want to wear a coat on a hot day, or wear hot pants on a snowy day right ??

make sure to do a little research about the weather
whether it's cold, hot, rainy, or snowy

if there's any chance of raining then I suggest you to bring your umbrella in your bag
unless you want to spend $3 on an umbrella. NOPE...

look at the weather app or news

make sure you know the right items to bring, and don't bring too many stuffs coz I guarantee that you'll shop A LOT OF STUFFs there. trust me....

tip number 3

BUY a T-MONEY

if you are traveling alone, you probably will use the public transportations such as Subways, Buses, or taxis

in Korea, the transportation system are soooooo great and well-made

how do you pay for transportations in korea ?

you have to buy a T-Money
what is T-Money ?
it's a card that you can use for many stuffs in Korea
it works for subways, buses, taxis. basically public transportations.

where to buy ?

you can buy it at a convenience stores (I forgot how it costs) GS25, CU, 7-Eleven, Ministop, With Me, Buy The Way, Story Way, etc. basically you go there and ask for "T-money Card" or you can say "T-money Card ju-se-yo" in Korean

and you can top up the value in the stores or at the subway stations (I usually do the top up at the subway station)

and you can literally go around Seoul with that one card

next question...
how to use the subway in Korea ?

there's a bunch of apps out there that will help you get around Seoul by using subway

I don't usually take buses coz it takes longer time to get to the places and subway is much more easier and faster in my opinion.

my favorite app is called "KAKAO METRO"
I am using an iphone 7 and you can download it for free on App store
I'm pretty sure it's available on google store as well

it's writen in english and it's soooo easy to use, you just need to type your nearest subway station and then type in your destination

it'll directly show you what line you should take and how many tranfer will you do, how many stops and how long does it take to your destination...

once you've done with the route,
all you need to do is follow the signs and lines
it'll be a bit confusing at first, but you'll get used to it once you know how to use it

if you get lost, just ask the people around you, hey... there's no need to be shy you know~~
(I suggest you to ask to younger people as they might know how to speak english)

I got lost sometimes and I asked people
it would be better if you can speak a bit of korean, so you can ask to anybody!

learn how to speak basic korean

I know it's hard, but it'll make you life 1000000% easier!!!

just learn a few basic word like "annyeonghaseyo" which means hello

"......ju-se-yo" means "please" when you need or want to buy something, for ex : "please give me that"(while pointing at the thing) "keugo ju-se-yo"(please give me that) or "igo ju-se-yo" which means (please give me this

if you wanna know the price of something then you can ask "olma-e-yo" which means (how much is this, or how much is that)

or if you want more discount then just say "kkakka ju-se-yo" which means (please give me discount)

and learn how to say "thank you" in korean which is "kamsa-ham-ni-da"

and there are many things you can learn like "how to get there" or "where is the blah blah blah"
if you want to know more about this, let me know in the comment down below ^^~

last tip number 5

it is sooooo important to get connected with the internet~
especially a girl like me who's stay updated with her instagram 24/7

I got a loooottt of questions on how to stay connected with the wifi or the internet

well, if you are lucky enough, you might get a free egg wifi from your airbnb hosts while you stay at their places.

there are some hosts that provides you an external egg wifi. but for the most part, they provides only a home wifi that you can use at home.

I personally like to buy a simcard instead of going around with wifi
it'll cost you quite a few dollars but it's totally worth it

I suggest you to buy "KT simcard" as it will give you the fastest LTE network with unlimited data

you can buy it at the airport, in front of gate 10 or gate 6 depending on what time is your arrival time

or you can buy it at TRAZY.com
Trazy usually offers a special price for you from time to time, so why spend extra money if you can get a cheaper one ?

so basically you just need to buy it there, complete the payment and then just wait for the comfirmation email.
once you get your booking code, save it

and when you arrive at INCHEON Airport, find the booth and just show your passport and the email that has your booking code. they'll check it and they'll ask you to write a form.

once you're done, they'll insert the simcard to your phone and voila !!!
unlimited LTE data is all yours~~~

and now you can upload your selfies to your instagram~~
let me upload mine here~ LOL

one thing you can't do is that you won't be able to do a phone call nor receive it

so, you only can do a call by using LINE, KAKAOTALK or any similar apps
